10 Fatloss Questions You Should Be Asking
[ Note: This is a portion of an article by fitness and nutrition author Jon Benson. He would like me to share it with you. The remainder of the article is on his site. ]
There’s stuff you know.
Then there’s stuff you don’t know.
But the key to success in anything is the discovery of one other variable:
The things you don’t know you don’t know.
Think about that.
So many people ask me questions like…
– How can I get rid of my stubborn bodyfat?
– How fast can I do it?
– What’s the best dietplan for me?
These are good questions, don’t get me wrong.
But there are at least 10 questions most people never know to ask.
It’s the stuff they didn’t know they didn’t know… make sense?
Today we’ll cover 3 of the 10…
HIDDEN QUESTION 1:
“What’s The Best Dietary-Fat To Eat To Get Rid Of Bodyfat?”
Sounds nutty, doesn’t it?
The media loves to deceive you when it comes to dietary fats… and I’m here to set the record straight:
You absolutely must consume dietary fat in order to burn-off your bodyfat.
There’s an old saying: “Fat burns…but in the presence of dietary-fat.”
It’s true.
There are actually two “Best Fats” you should be eating:
Coconut Oil
CLA
Coconut oil is ideal to cook with. Use that in place of all the starchy foods you may be eating. You’ll get leaner faster… and you’ll be a ton more healthy too.
Coconut oil keeps you satisfied longer, lubricates your joints, and yes… actually helps you get rid of stubborn bodyfat.
Use 1 tablespoon per 50 lbs per day, but be sure to decrease your starchy carbs (breads, rice, potatoes, etc.)
CLA is a form of (gasp!) transfat… but it’s a healthy form that helps your body get rid of bodyfat. You can only get it in supplement-form… well, that’s the best way.
I personally take 4 grams per day. Jarrow is my favorite brand. You can get it at most health food stores.
I cover several other fats you need to eat in my video and book, found here:

HIDDEN QUESTION 2:
“Why Is Cardio Bad For Me?”
Okay… that’s an over-statement. It’s not ‘bad’ for you… it’s just not nearly as ‘good’ for you as the media and magazines want you to believe.
Especially if you do it the way they suggest: Too long, too frequently.
Do it the way I suggest and watch what happens.
First, spend 80% of your exercise time doing ‘resistance’ training, not cardio… but rest very brief between sets.
My newest update to “7 Minute Muscle” is called “7 Minute Body”. It combines both “7 Minute Muscle” and an additional 100 or so pages of in-home ONLY workouts.
That way you can train in the gym… or in your home… and get it done in 7 to 14 minutes a day. Done!
You will be shaping your body and burning-off some major calories at the same time… all without boring cardio.
Then when you “do” cardio, do it the way I detail in “7 Minute Body”… use the 9-minute GXP Cardio Workout.
Add simple walking to this several days a week and your cardio is set.
GXP works because it is progressive and does not over-tax the recovery system. You warm up, then hit about 85% of your max effort, then cool down.
But the key is ‘when’ to do it… and that’s covered in my book.
I still enjoy sitting on my bike and watching TV, but I do that just to burn-off those last bits of bodyfat. Most of you do not need to do this.
It’s a waste of time for the masses… but resistance training is not.
Oh, one more thing: Runners have a far higher degree of heart attacks than non-runners. So cardio ‘can’ be bad for you if you over-do it.
NOTE: You can pick up “7 Minute Body” at 77% off…
but only if you get EODD…

HIDDEN QUESTION 3:
“How Does Pizza Help Me Shed Bodyfat?”
Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?
Think again.
My dietary plan not only “lets” you eat pizza (or whatever your favorite foods might be) every week, several times a week… it DEMANDS that you do it.
What the…. ?
Yep. Here’s why.
First, I have you eat less on certain days and certain times. If done the way I suggest your metabolism (the rate you use fat, energy, etc.) will not slow down that much.
Then… at a specific time… boom! You eat a lot more food… and the best way to do this is eating your favorite foods.
First, they usually have more calories.. duh! Second, you’ll ENJOY the freakin’ process! Most “diets” fail because people hate them… too restrictive.
So I created my System from the ground up to ensure I never got bored with my eating… and the extra cals from pizza (or my favorite… Mexican… or Key Lime Pie… yum) actually boosts my metabolism sky-high.
Here’s an example:
Last week I ate the normal Every Other Day Diet-way… for me it’s the “Extreme Plan” (there are 4 Plans, each for different goals.)
So, after several days of lower-cal, lower-carb eating, I ate about 5000 calories of Mexican food (so good!) But the TIMING is crucial. You just can wing it. Don’t worry… I tell you exactly when to do it.
The next morning I saw more of my abs.
I went back to EODD-style eating, which I love btw… and then later had some Key Lime Pie… and what do you know? Leaner the next day.
Now I’m doing this as I “peak” — I have to be in top shape in December. The only time I stop this is 4 weeks prior to a photoshoot… but unless you want to be 5% bodyfat (and you probably do not) you never have to stop it.
Works like a charm.

Forget Dieting, Make Positive Changes
Why is it mentioning “diet” brings thoughts of failure to our minds? Perhaps we have all learned through trial and error that diets simply do not work? But wait, this is a blog about dieting, so why am I talking this way? Well, it is and it isn’t. It’s about staying fit while losing weight. It’s about making for a fit fat loss event. Dieting is disastrous for many, yet a new phase in your life may be just the thing that will bring success in your fitness and health goals.
Eating for some is a habit, or worse, an addiction. True, you must eat to survive; yet you do not have to survive to eat! So if food is a problem area in your life, you must find a healthier way of viewing food.
Change the way you eat. Then alter your way of viewing food and you will realize amazing changes in your attitudes toward your health, your weight loss, and even your fitness level. As those first pounds begin to disappear you will begin to experience more energy, a more positive outlook, and less pain when exercising (yes, exercising). This should help keep you motivated to progress even more. And sure, books and videos and instruction and education can be beneficial in your plans. But, choose them wisely.
Isn’t this where diets come in handy, to help you lose weight? Well, actually, this is where diets often fail. Fad diets do very little to change how we view food. In fact, most diets only advise us which foods are bad or even which foods are taboo (typically those foods we enjoy most), and if we’re lucky, which foods are good. Sometimes they don’t even consider that you need to experience a healthy weight loss. There’s even that old, deprived, punished, or guilty feeling that is played upon. And no one likes to feel these things. So if you follow a diet plan, make sure it involves what I have been discussing.
In order to achieve your weight loss or fat loss goals you must adapt to a lifestyle change – find what works for you to strip that fat and burn that fat and increase your metabolism. Changing your eating habits is the best way for you to shed those unwanted pounds without experiencing the setbacks that so many dieters go through. As I said in another article, set goals for yourself. Be aggressive but realistic with them and relate them to fitness, dropping pounds, and eating healthy foods. Even if your goal is as simple as eating the recommended servings of fruits or vegetables each day, that is a great place to start. And with the changes your body will be experiencing, give it a little help with extra sleep and provide it with added vitamins or supplements too.
Now, those long term weight loss goals might not be as easy to reach as the first five or ten pounds were, but I’ll say that consistency is vital when making these lifestyle changes. One day at a time; take each day as it comes and begin again the very next day. This means that even if you didn’t quite succeed “today“, there is still tomorrow. What is important is staying the course more days than not and learning moderation. Do you remember the expression “everything in moderation”?
There are many pitfalls when it comes to weight loss. There is no real way to fail, however, when you are making changes in your life that are getting positive results. It may take months or a couple of years to reach your final goal, but it is attainable! As long as you are making a continuous effort and see a little progress, you are doing many great things for your health and well being.

REMINDER: Stay fit while losing weight. Get only moderate exercise at first, and if your body is stressed, give it a helping hand by getting that much needed extra sleep and consider adding a good multiple vitamin to your diet.

Weight Loss Supplements
Here is something essential to your well being: Providing your body the nutrients that it needs to make it through the day. The foods you eat often will not contain enough of the nutrients that your body needs to be in your best physical, and even mental, shape. While there is no need to replace a diet that is full of nutrients, the body sometimes needs additional supplementation to be at the most beneficial level. One of those times is during weight loss.
If you are dieting, healthy weight loss is important, and that is why I would like to talk about weight loss supplements – in a different light. These are not the supplements that come to mind to help you lose weight, these are the supplements to take while you are dieting to make it a fit fat loss event. And really, these are the supplements you will want to continue to take once you discover their benefits.
So, what are you to take? This is not an understatement… find a good quality multivitamin and take that as directed. Multivitamins are a good starting point because they provide a decent dose of supplements that just about everyone needs. They give you what your food doesn’t and are affordable solutions to your needs. Some even target specific age groups or deficiencies!
Next, find out what type of supplements are available for your individual needs since they will likely be exaggerated while your body is being stressed – it is undergoing changes from that diet you are on!
How do you know how much to take? Supplements come in varying strengths and can often be taken in various quantities. The most beneficial amount may not be the smallest amount. Taking a large amount may not have any additional benefit, may be wasteful, or worse, harmful. So, unless you know otherwise, start with the recommended dose. Then, if you are not getting the desired effect after a reasonable period of time, increase the amount you are taking as long as you don‘t exceed the maximum amount. …still no effect or ill effects? Then look at your situation closely: you might need to give it a bit more time to become effective; you might have chosen an inefficient variation of the supplement – switch to a different brand or an enhanced or fortified one. Gauge the ill effects if there are some. Would cutting back the dose alleviate them while still providing you with enough benefits?
There are a couple of precursory routes to take to help you find that optimum amount. First off, we know you will have already consulted with your physician before starting any special supplements. For popular vitamins and supplements, they will establish the recommended dosage. Ask them why THAT dose, how long will it take before you experience benefits, what side-effects might occur, and find out if there are any interactions between your current medications and supplements and this new supplement.
Second, locate a reliable health food store or a vitamin supplier. The ones we use have good, basic information on each supplement they sell. We also rely on a couple of books.
Quality is very important if you want to see benefits from supplementation so it is vital that you have a reliable source. Try to find one whose staff is knowledgeable enough that they can help you choose the best product for your needs. If they can offer tips on how to lose weight, all the better! If not, find a couple of reputable websites that offer help for supplementation and weight loss.
Plus, that’s where we will be stepping in over the coming weeks for you by providing already researched information. Again, quality is essential to success here – quality information and quality products. And this is the time you must take the initiative in educating yourself!
Supplements can help to improve your body’s function because you are giving your body exactly what it needs to do the work right. Make the effort to know what to take, in what amount, in order to keep your weight loss healthy and fit.

what are some healthy weight loss foods?
i work out from 2 hours a day id just like to know what foods to eat if i wanted to lose weight. like, whats healthy? veges grilled chicken and fish….any ideas?
Pretty much all vegetables are good. Some have a little more calories than others but generally they have few calories and lots of fiber. Also, if you like bread or pasta, try to eat whole wheat and make sure they don’t just "contain" wheat but actually are whole wheat. They not only have fiber and less processed grains, but whole wheat has been found to have other health benefits as well. Try to drink plenty of fluids but not juice or soda. Drink water, and if you don’t like just plain water, drink flavored seltzer waters that don’t have calories or very few. People don’t realize it when they drink all their calories because they don’t feel full. Turkey has less fat than chicken, and make sure you eat baked chicken or saute it in a small amount of olive oil and use seasonings for flavoring (i.e. spices, garlic, onions, etc.). Try to avoid too much salt because that can make you retain water. You do need some sodium in your diet though. That’s it for now. Good luck.
